GREEN RIVER COLLEGE
SEATTLE - UNITED STATES

Green River is a two-year public college, located in a park-like setting, just 35 minutes from the city of Seattle, Washington. 10,000 students study at Green River, including more than 900 international students from over 40 different countries.

Green River Community College's Intensive English Program is primarily for international students who want to prepare for academic study at American colleges and universities. We offer small classes and personal attention from highly qualified instructors. Study English at an intensive pace in an English-speaking environment.

Our advanced level offers academic preparation classes and opportunities for students to experience regular college classes. Most students who enroll in our Intensive English Program continue their academic study at Green River Community College for two years, then transfer to a four-year university in the U.S. to complete their bachelor's degree. Our students have transferred to University of Washington, University of Southern California, Purdue University, University of Michigan, University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and many other excellent American universities.

Students in the English Program learn important skills that prepare them for academic study. Students learn the following skills:

* Academic skills (process writing, presentations, research, note-taking)
* Study skills (organization, teamwork, self-assessment)
* Culture skills (interaction with other international students and Americans, analysis of American life, and use of campus and community resources)

* 20 instructional hours of class per week:
Four instructional hours per day, five days per week (summer varies)
* 5 Levels: Basic to Academic Preparation.
Each level takes one quarter (three months) to complete.
* Course Content: Grammar, Writing, Reading, Oral, and TOEFL Prep
* Fall, winter and spring quarters last 11 weeks. Summer quarter is 8 weeks (6 instructional hours per day, 4 days per week). The English Program quarters follow the same calendar as the academic program.
