Founded 1914, Johnson & Wales University (JWU) is an accredited, private, nonprofit institution with 16,000+ students from 96 countries. Located in North Miami, Florida; Denver, Colorado; Charlotte, North Carolina and Providence, Rhode Island. JWU offers degrees in Business, Hospitality, Culinary Arts and Technology. Our ESL Institute provides small and personalized attention to students. The ESL Department is located on the second floor of the John Hazen White Center on the Providence Campus. The English Language Institute (ELI) provides international students with the opportunity to learn English as a Second Language. The ELI is primarily a university preparatory intensive English program focusing on developing academic skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing in the English language. In addition, the ELI welcomes students who wish to study only English and are not planning to enter an academic program. Credit bearing courses in oral communications, reading, writing and grammar are available to all students who are not native English speakers. Special projects such as English Immersion, English for Specific Purposes, Workplace and/or Business English can be designed and conducted by members of the ESL faculty. Three 11-week English language programs are offered during the academic year (Sept-May), as well as an 8-week summer program. JWU also offers M.B.A.’s, only in Providence, in Business and Hospitality. Students gain valuable hands-on experience that prepares them for their chosen field of study. We provide full range of essential services for Int’l Students that include airport shuttle pickup, complimentary overnight accommodations, off- campus housing assistance, and opportunities to experience and enjoy the many clubs, organizations and activities for Int’l Students. ![]() Courses

![]() Providence In the heart of the downtown area in Providence, Rhode Island. Providence offers big city sophistication on a welcoming scale, and is often voted as one of the country's best places to live. An historic yet fast-paced city, Providence is located in the middle of the highest per capita concentration of colleges and universities in the U.S., so it’s alive with things to do. The city has inspired the NBC hit series Providence, and serves as the setting for the popular Showtime series Brotherhood. Providence is just 45 minutes from Boston, Cape Cod and Newport and a quick three hour trip from New York City. Known as the "Ocean State," Rhode Island has more than 400 miles of coastline with 100 beaches. The state has 20 percent of the nation's registered landmarks, most of them in Providence and Newport, which is known as the sailing capital of the world. Because of Rhode Island's historic charm, it’s been the site for the filming of no less than seven major motion pictures over the last three years. ![]() Student Reviews
